Something Fishy

<We interrupt regular programming for a special today.>

Genre: Children’s

Publisher: Duckbill Books

Synopsis: Stolen antique watch, packets of Mayamix destroyed, a neighbour aunty who seems to have disappeared. Mira is on the case…

Review: In this delightful collection, we meet eight-year-old Mira who has a nose for fishiness–she can tell when something is not okay. When she encounters anything that’s suspicious, she asks questions, observes and thinks and thinks until she has figured it out.

The stories are full of fast-paced action and Mira is absolutely adorable. She’s a very clever girl and will follow her nose to the conclusion of her case, even if it means disobeying her mother a little.

Wonderful stories, great characters and I loved the illustrations too. Teachable moments (if one wants that kind of thing) for kids and adults here. I loved being along on the adventure with Mira.

Be warned, you will be left craving scrumptious prshprshprsh payasam. I had to make do with plain old rice payasam.

Verdict:  Definitely read it, read it to the kids.

Disclaimer: The author was my first partner-in-crime solving writing. When we were about Mira’s age, we tried to write a book. This book, thankfully, is nothing like the one we attempted all those years ago.

Another disclaimer: I haven’t read children’s books since I was a child myself, so I’m no expert on the subject. But I do know adventure stories and all three in this book are terrific.
