She rose out of the dusty Chaos
Gaia, the nurturer, the giver
Millions of years and millions of species
lived in peace in the lap of Demeter‘s plenty

But her wayward child, the human beats his way
down a path of destruction today.
She forgives and shows him his error.
He forgets the lessons and turns his back
on wars, famine, factories spewing smoke,
her children dying from all the abuse.

Chemicals in the soil and into his body,
plastics and poisons in the lakes and rivers,
causing climate change and catastrophes.
Tall, proud forests destroyed in fell swoops
the creatures within driven to extinction.

Materialism and endless possessions,
excessive waste, and greed choke.
Her humanchild closes his eyes and heart
to the damage he is doing.
Pretending that what happens to the Mother
is not his concern.

When will he learn that
in tune with Nature
is the only way to survive?
Honour all life and protect its brilliance,
for the fate of Bhoomi is his to share.

For millennia Jaganmatri has endured
cleansing the effects of her child’s abuse.
She will endure for many millennia more,
but her humanchild might be here no more…
